This is a two-part project written by me and my co-analyst, Muhammad Khalis Bin Samion, for GGR377: Introduction to Urban Data Analytics. The choice of Jakarta as a case study stemmed from two reasons. Hailing from Indonesia and Singapore respectively, we have personal interest in this topic due to our degree of familiarity with transportation systems in Southeast Asia more broadly and Jakarta more specifically. Furthermore, upon conducting our literature review, recent rapid levels of urbanisation and public transport expansion in Jakarta have not yet translated into better service coverage for urban slum dwellers. The realities of urban life lead us to question how equitable the transportation service delivery is in Jakarta.
Khalis and I conducted network analyses of amenity service coverage by transportation service in North Jakarta in our first project. Building off its results, our second project focuses on comparing local coverage of urban slums between the most accessible and least accessible district in North Jakarta. In the project website, you can see the maps and analyses we produced. Read our full project here.
